Hello,
in my company you cannot connect to a SQL server from a client. Only app servers in the same data center can connect to SQL servers.
We want to use an enterprise data gateway, installed on an app server, to manage this restriction.
My question: how can normal employees design reports based on data from a MSSQL server, using the desktop application?
I found out, that you cannot connect from deskop application to the gateway.
You can only design the reports internally using a direct connection to the internal SQL Server but re-direct to the gateway when in the Power BI Service.
But how can someone design a report when he cannot access the SQL server?
Is there any best practice for this kind of problem?
Thanks!
Benedikt
