PowerBI for clients - own subscription or PowerBI embedded

Hi,

I am investigating providing PowerBI reporting for our clients. We develop applications and have reporting, but of course there are many advantages to switching to PowerBI for that.

I am confused... I see there is PowerBI which you subscribe to on a per-user basis and also PowerBI embedded - which I understand can be used to integrate PowerBI into your own applications.

The costs for PowerBI look quite unpredictable, as well as extra support and so on from our side.

What I'd like to do is investigate if this is possible

- Clients sign up to PowerBI themselves with required number of users etc.

- We send them the required PowerBI reports etc. (can they give us an api key to create / setup reports etc. via the BI API? or do we just send the report definitions)

- Data from our application can then be pulled / pushed into their PowerBI via one of

SQL, CSV or API

Is this possible and is anyone doing this?

Thanks

James

@jamesfarrer

You can create a group in Power BI.com and  import an pbix to that group via API. However, in the group, you can only add the members in your orginization, namely if you'd like your customers to see the reports in the group, you will have ask them to grant you an account from their orgnization.

The imported pbix/dataset can use schedule refresh or DirectQuery.
