Power BI embedded in MS Teams - should the data auto refresh?

I have built a report in PBI desktop and published it.  I have established and confirmed successful dataset refreshes with the on-prem data gateway.  When the data is refreshed the report within MS Teams does not update.  If I re-publish from PBI desktop the data is refreshed.  What am I missing that the Teams reports don't stay updated?  If we had to click the refresh button within Teams I could live with that but alas that doesn't refresh the data.
