Moving SQL database to the cloud for use in Power BI

Hi All,

 

I have been asked to move an on premise asp.net web app with SQL backend to PowerBI.  The app is no longer used for editing, so its just a case of replicating some of the data views on the web app in PowerBI.

 

We no longer want to keep the SQL data for this app on premise, so I don't want to use a gateway.  Where is best to host this data for PowerBI to access - an Azure SQL DB?  I am new to PowerBI / Azure
