MCP limitations for updating calculation groups

Hello,

Using the MCP server, but I can not update the Item within the calculation group.
Is there any known limitation for that?

What I am doing without any issues -> I am adding a new calculation group. But modifying current calc group items - not working...

Best,
Jacek

Hi @jaryszek , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.

I think this is a limitation of MCP modeling preview rather than a semantic model restriction. Calculation group items are editable through the semantic model metadata layer, but some update operations through MCP don’t appear to be fully supported or reliable yet. If modifying existing items fails while creating new groups works, it’s likely a tooling limitation in MCP. If needed, you can update the calculation items through the XMLA endpoint using a tool like Tabular Editor.

thank you, it is confirmed officialy or you just tested it?

Best,
Jacek

Hi @jaryszek , No it is not confirmed, I checked but can't find any MS official docs regarding this. It is just an Observation.

Ok so you tested it. Thank you very much.
Where I can open a new topic to report bug?

Best,
Jacek

Hi @jaryszek, Please raise it as a feature request in  Microsoft Fabric Ideas forum and get as many upvotes as possible. The engineering team actively monitors those for real world pain points, with enough upvotes these ideas will be implemented as features.
