How do you change the marker shape in the legend for a Line and Column chart as shown below?
How do I change the round blue shape to a square?

Hi @Berean_50
I have checked your sample, and I think the reason is as you said that Current is in Column Field in your visual. I think shape funtion could only change the shape of line part in "Line and Cluster Column" chart. This function aims to distinguish the line and column part in Legend. I couldn't find a function to change the shape of column part as well. You see that if I add Product ID in Column series, Legend for column part will all show in circle.
If you want the line and column part to show the same shape, I suggest you to change the shape in line part to circle.
Your demand is a good idea, while it is not supported to implement in Power BI currently.
You can submit a new idea to improve the Power BI: Idea.

@Berean_50 Go into the Format sub-pane of your Visualizations pane. Expand Shape settings. Under Customize series, which appears to be on, in the drop down choose Current. Scroll down and change the Marker shape.
Thank you for the hint @Greg_Deckler . Unfortunately on the Line/Clustered Column Chart I only have access to the Customize Series option via Data Labels option. Data Labels does not have have a Marker Shape option which you could select, say, the 'Current' value. Marker Shape sits under Shapes option and does not give you the option to select neither 'Current' nor 'Previous'. When you change the marker shape it only changes the line marker but not the clustered column marker. It still remains as a blue round shape.
@Berean_50 So, you should have a Shapes section:
If you scroll down, you should have a toggle for Customize series:
If that toggle is off, toggle it on. I don't know how to get alterative shapes for legends without this option being toggled on.
Hi @Greg_Deckler
I don't have a Customize Series option under Shapes. This is all I've got under the Shapes section as per my July (2021) version:
@Berean_50 I'm on August but can you scroll down because the Customize series toggle is just underneath Stepped.
Hi @Greg_Deckler , Stepped is the last item in in the Shapes section. As you can see the next section is Plot Area. This is the Line & Clustered Column chart.
@Berean_50 Oh yeah, there it is as the first feature of the August update: Power BI August 2021 Feature Summary | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Power BI
Hi @Greg_Deckler , my last screenshot was from the August 21 release. I went through every single card and option and I could not see the option to change the shape of the data columns. Yes, I can change the legend marker shape which affects the line chart series but cannot change bar column shape which is set to a blue round shape!
@Berean_50 OK, put a second anything (column/measure) into your Line values area, this is how I got it to show up for a Line and clustered column chart.
Hi @Greg_Deckler
By adding an extra measure to the Line Values area, certainly shows the Customize Series option. However it only allows you to change the marker/shape for the the Line values and not for the column values which is what I'm after.
I don't think there's anything that can be done. I sincerely appreciate your efforts, Greg.
Hi @Berean_50
Could you share a easy sample without any sensitive data with us? We need to know your data model and your visual format. This may make it easier for us to find the reason.

HI @Anonymous and @Greg_Deckler
If this helps I have a attached a very simple PBIX file with the chart as requested. The aim is to be able to change the blue circle shape (column values) into something else like a blue square shape, for example.
You can download the PBIX sample file https://1drv.ms/u/s!AuHocvOERo6IhMscUON_UFyaePhPVQ?e=Vbz8CH
