How to change legend marker shape in Line and Column chart
- Anonymous5 years ago
Hi Berean_50
I have checked your sample, and I think the reason is as you said that Current is in Column Field in your visual. I think shape funtion could only change the shape of line part in "Line and Cluster Column" chart. This function aims to distinguish the line and column part in Legend. I couldn't find a function to change the shape of column part as well. You see that if I add Product ID in Column series, Legend for column part will all show in circle.
If you want the line and column part to show the same shape, I suggest you to change the shape in line part to circle.
Your demand is a good idea, while it is not supported to implement in Power BI currently.
You can submit a new idea to improve the Power BI: Idea.

Berean_50 Go into the Format sub-pane of your Visualizations pane. Expand Shape settings. Under Customize series, which appears to be on, in the drop down choose Current. Scroll down and change the Marker shape.

Thank you for the hint Greg_Deckler . Unfortunately on the Line/Clustered Column Chart I only have access to the Customize Series option via Data Labels option. Data Labels does not have have a Marker Shape option which you could select, say, the 'Current' value. Marker Shape sits under Shapes option and does not give you the option to select neither 'Current' nor 'Previous'. When you change the marker shape it only changes the line marker but not the clustered column marker. It still remains as a blue round shape.

Berean_50 So, you should have a Shapes section:
If you scroll down, you should have a toggle for Customize series:
If that toggle is off, toggle it on. I don't know how to get alterative shapes for legends without this option being toggled on.

Hi Greg_Deckler
I don't have a Customize Series option under Shapes. This is all I've got under the Shapes section as per my July (2021) version:
