Hello guys,
I'm a long time reader of this great PowerBI community, and for the first time I haven't find the answer to my question, so here it is, my first post!
In my organization, we would like to automate the process of copying workspaces. We actually have a "template" workspace that includes a paginated report (.rdl) and a PowerBI report.
The PowerBI report connects to a SQL database and the connection is made in import mode. The paginated report connects to the PowerBI report dataset. And the PowerBI report includes a paginated report visual linked to the one in the same workspace.
-> Do you think it is technically possible to achieve this kind of model? I know there are scripts to copy workspaces (using REST api for example) but I also wonder if it would be possible using the script :
- to rebind the paginated report visual to the "John" paginated report ;
- to rebind the John paginated report to the John dataset ?
Indeed, I'm afraid that after copying the workspace, the paginated report visual would still be linked to the template paginated report, and not the fresh copy.
We know that there are more optimized models, for example using Direct Query mode with only 1 workspace for both the powerbi report and the paginated report. But for reasons specific to our organization, we would like to stay in import mode, with a paginated report that points to the powerbi report data set.
If my question is not clear, I can give you more details!
Sorry for my english, I'm not fluent ^_^
Best regards,
Mistralou

Hey Yingyinr!
Thanks for your help!
The question here is less about how to copy a workspace than how to automatically reconnect the embedded paginated report to the one that lives in the new workspace

Mistralou
