Get Report Layout in an External Tool

Hello,

I can easily get "DataModelSchema" information from a external tool I created by connecting its localhost port to an Analysis Services instance. However, I also need to read the sections, visuals, prototype queries, filters, etc. in the report.

The only way so far I found it by doing so is by hacking PBIT file, but I'd like to get both information from the external tool. Is it possible?

Hi @FelipeCosta,

I'd like to suggest you take a look at the below link about power bi external tools and descriptions if listed tools meet to your requirements:

Thanks, but I've already read that. Additionally, in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/transform-model/desktop-external-tools-register states clearly that PBI Desktop passes the parameters %server% and %database%. With those parameters alone, I can't get any information about the report's layout/visuals, etc.

I wonder if I could, at least, get PBIX's path, so I could hack its "Report/Layout" file inside the container...

HI @FelipeCosta,

Current I haven't found any other effective resolutions. Perhaps you can try to submit an idea to add features to analyze these properties on power bi side instead of manually hacking the file.
