Fabric Capacity Metrics - underlying data?

Where does the Fabric Capacity Metrics app get the data to calculate the CU % metrics? Is it possible to recreate the app using the PowerBIWorkspace Log Analytics data?

We are wondering the same thing. By all appearances the data comes from a direct query connection to

Extension{"extensionDataSourceKind":"CapacityMetricsCES","extensionDataSourcePath":"CapacityMetricsCES"}.

Yes, it looks to be a connection to a Kusto connection (using a CapacityID parameter), but I get AccessDenied no matter how I try to connect from my own Power BI file (even though I'm using the same Data Source Creditials as the Metrics app)

let
    Source = (KustoFunctionName as text, optional xCapacity_ID as text,optional Timepoint as datetime,optional agoDays as text) =>
    let

        Source = CapacityMetricsCES.GetMetricsData(
            KustoFunctionName ,
            if xCapacity_ID = null then CapacityID else xCapacity_ID ,
            "7E4058F3-1C1F-4C3A-8151-03D3A2C3C30X",
            if agoDays = null then "13" else agoDays,
            "https://pbipam.kusto.windows.net",
            "pbip",
            Number.FromText( UTC_offset ),
            null,
            DateTime.ToText(Timepoint)
            )
        in
