Hi...
I have a web application used by both internal users and 3rd party (clients/partners). I would like to embed Power BI reports into this application and am unclear on what is the correct way to do this in terms of licensing.
I do't want to use the 'Publish to WEB' option as would like some security in place + to remove the 'share' option and PowerBI decoration. My understanding is that my internal users will require a Power BI Pro license and that I can use the REST API to embed the reports into the Web App. But I may also have external users who will be looking at the same report in the same page. I don't want to have to tell them to subscribe to a Power BI Pro license via O365.
Based on this, in my sceanrio, is the following correct?:
If the above is true, do I need two methods of displaying the same report? One for the internal user and another for the 3rd party (via the REST API and Power BI Embedded respectively)? This seems really clunky - is there another way I can do this?
For security and exteral sharing, I think you shall use Power BI Embedded, no license involved at all.
Thanks - but remember I have the same report in the same application and on the same page. Ideally, I want to use only one method to load the report for both internal & external users. I guess that's not possible.
I have since discovered that an on-premise solution via SSRS is in the pipeline - hopefully, this will be a better solution when it becomes available!
