I'm still rather new to custom visual development. I'm still stumbling around, but making progress.
I'm looking for some guidance in how to create something similar to what is happening in the Shape Map visualization.
In the format options, under Shape, there is a listbox, a link and what appears to be a button. Clicking the "button" launches a file dialog box. My guess is the button is just a drawn shape. After the file has been selected, text indicating the file loaded replaces the button and an "X" appears (which clears out the file selected when clicked). See screen captures below.
In any case, I don't see how I can add this through the capabilities.json file alone. Any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @WZorn,
The shape map is a core visual, and as such has access to the properties pane that custom visuals do not. This type is currently not supported via the visual capabilities and suitable APIs would need to be provided by MS before it could be used by custom visual developers.
I'd suggest you raise a feature request via the Github repository so the team are aware that it's a requirement and can see if they can add to an upcoming update.

Daniel

Thanks @dm-p .
I figured that would likely be the case. I really like the idea of using a file dialog box to select files. I was hoping there might be a work around.
