Certified connector updates for people with old versions of PBI Desktop

If a new version of a certified connector is released, will people who have old versions of PBI Desktop ever get it if they don't install a new version of PBI Desktop?

Is there no process in which old versions of PBI Desktop can get connector updates? I assumed there wasn't, but would like to just confirm.

In that case, we would have to either force users to update PBI Desktop or support old connector versions indefinitely.

If a new version of a certified connector is released, users who have old versions of Power BI Desktop will not automatically receive the new connector version unless they install a new version of Power BI Desktop that includes the updated connector. There is no process for updating connectors in older versions of Power BI Desktop without updating the entire application.

As a developer or provider of a connector, you will need to consider the impact of releasing updates on your users who may not always be able to upgrade Power BI Desktop. You may need to support older versions of your connector for some time to ensure that all users can continue to access their data.

Alternatively, you can communicate with your users about the benefits of upgrading to the latest version of Power BI Desktop, which may include new features, improved performance, and compatibility with the latest versions of connectors.
