virtual machine data gateway setup

Hi,

 

I have Power BI dashboards which are built from various data sources  like SQL Server Database and some excel files from Shared folder(shared across the organization) but when my computer is on sleep mode, schedule refresh doesn't work. So I have VM but dont know how to connect and what data gateway to use.

 

1. Which data gateway I need to install on VM ( on premisis or Personal mode) ?

2. After installation how to use/change that(installed on VM) gateway in Power BI. Currently I have Personal mode gateway on my machine

3. Will it have WindowsImpersonation error/do I need to refresh manually.

    To my Understanding,

     

    It is always recommanded to use Enterprise Gateway in an Organisation. 

    You can use your Recovery Key to migrate the Gateway from your PC to VM but I am not sure that recovery is going to work for Enterprise gateway(installed in VM) as the key is from Persoanl gateway.

      Anonymous Thank you for responding. Is there anyway that I can know what my recovery key on my PC? I think I forgot that

        As far as I know, we can't find if you havn't kept the Recovery key before.

      I think there is no way to recover the Gateway recovery key unless you note it down somewhere.
