Hi ,
has anyone managed to unzip and rezip Power BI Template files (inclusive DataMashup) to put it under version control?
Thank you.

Unfortunately I do not believe this is possible. I'm pretty sure that Power BI Desktop signs the zip. So if you unzip, make some changes and then re-zip Power BI Desktop will no longer open the file as the signature will not be valid.
HI @mwegener ,
Pbix file is possible to open with compression software, but I don't think you can modify on pbix file to add custom files to records template version.(power bi service will verified published pbix files)
What makes up a Power BI Desktop PBIX File
In my opinion, I'd like to suggest you direct mark version on its file name.
