tooltip or hover over on a table column

I would like to be able to use a field value as a tooltip when hovering over a column in a table.  For example, I have a Title field and a Description field (which can be quite large).  I would like to be able to only include the Title column in my table and then hover over it to show the Description in the tooltip.  Is this possible?

I believe this ability is now availabe (as of the August 2018 release):

I did a very quick test on one of my tables and it seems to work as expected. It also works on the matrix visual.

This is not possible as far as I know.

Maybe this workaround works for you:

  • Create a calculated column with Title & UNICHAR(10) & Description.
  • Make the column not too wide; a normal width so most of the title fits in.
  • In the tootltip text you see the Title and the Decription on the next line.

Hope this works for you.

Hi @mjmmet,

'tooltip or hover over on a table column' this feature is not supported in Power BI currently, you could vote the similar ideas below

which have been submitted in Power BI ideas forum and add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.

In addition, you could try with the workaround provided by @waltheed.

Hope it can help you. Only thing that you'll have to notice, just always accept the replies making sense as solution to your question so that people who may have the same question can get the solution directly.
