stacked column chart with range of date

I need to track the status of the work if it is finished or still in progress, i have the stack column chart in the first pic, now i was reqired to show the work in 4 monthly or 3 monthly or 2 monthly. each work has a starting date and ending date however since some of the work are not completed yet they will not have any end date, how can i show my work status in the in the second pic. need help, Thanks!
