sort by hierarchy column

How can I sort the table by Month? Or can I do the visual another way?

Hi there -

Usually PowerBI sorts Month column just as a text column itself.

But if you want it sort in proper order (not alphabetic), then please do the following:

1. Open the table in the Data1.PNG

2. Then in the table you have the month column, select that column and then select the Modelling tab in the top menu and click on "Sort by column" option and select the MonthID column in your table. (I am assuming this is in sequence of how you want the months to be displayed, please correct me if I am wrong here)

Once the above is done, you should be able to see the sorting in the correct order for the months. Please test the above and let me know if that worked for you.

Regards

Eswar

You are right, the sort is Alphabetical.

I don't have a Month column in my table, but even if I had, if the table is of more then one year is will not be sorted properly.

I added Month column to Calendar, and added it to the visual. Then sort by it, it comes right. But then when I remove it the sort is again Alphabetical.

I found a solution but it is not neat. I add YTD column and sort it, the months are sorted right.

But the engine should do it without the trick.
