ribbon only showing Home and Modeling

I'm a new user to Power BI and have been using the desktop.  I have loaded the latest Sept update but in all the tutorials etc there are 4 items on the ribbon.  I seem to only have Home and Modeling, can anyone help me work out why file and view arnt on mine?

Hi, @OldBoy

The Format and Drill menu shows only when you select a visual. That is to say you can see File, Home and Modeling items by default. In your scenario, you said you couldn't see File, you can try to re-install the PowerBI tool to check whether the issue still occurs.

The menus are context sensitive. Go to the visual action view and select a visual. You will see 4 menus

Thanks Matt, yes I see the 4 items in the ribbon ie Home, Modeling, Format and Drill when I open a visual.

The issue I'm having is that in the https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-september-feature-summary/ I'm trying to get the mobile report layout going.  In Kim's example she has 4 tabs on the ribbon ie file, home, view and modeling.  It is the file tab that I need to get into the "change layout" area.  I only have Home and Modeling, not File and View?

Any thoughts?

I'm having the same issue....downloaded this tool specifically for phone visualization...and the directions provided do not coincide with the abilities i have to change the page layout (no crafty way to drag visuals onto the smartphone looking screen per the instructions).   Did you get this resolved?

@OldBoy@smckie Make sure you are on the latest Desktop version, and you need to enable the features as they are in preview...

File -> Options and Settings -> Options -> Preview Features

The link you provided outlines this, have you enabled the feature, restarted and you still don't see it?

I can't see format tab in my ribbon even after following all the directions. Can you help?
