reorder tabs in the model view

prompts
power bi desktop. model view. why I can not move tabs left or right?
can you find all fabric community posts about this limitation for moving tabs. and also find posts from the fabric ideas forum. both under Desktop forums
this would be functionality same as for the report view where we can mouse menu move to or mouse hold and drag left or right
what we want
the same functionality as for the report view where we can mouse menu move to or mouse hold and drag left or right.
{ does make you wonder what the developer was doing when they created this for the report view and did not add to the model view !? }

reorder tabs in the model view  (Ideas forum to vote up)
Can you really not reorder tabs in the model view? I've tried everything. Surely you can?

Hi @garythomannCoGC

It's certainly unfortunate that Power BI Desktop doesn't support reordering Model View tabs (yet)!

I see that you have created an idea here which I just voted for.

For now, if you are willing to use an unofficial method, you can edit either:

  • The DiagramLayout file (PBIX format); or
  • The diagramLayout.json file (PBIP format).

In either case, you can change the "ordinal" properties within those files to reorder the tabs.

Hi @SteenSoernesen ,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

In Power BI Desktop's Model View, users cannot reorder tabs for tables or display folders like Customers or Orders. Unlike in Report View, where tabs can be moved left or right, Model View tabs stay in the order they were created. This makes organizing the workspace more difficult, especially with larger models. For example, if you load two tables such as Customers and Orders, then try to drag their tabs in Model View, the tabs cannot be reordered. However, this works in Report View. Allowing drag-and-drop reordering or a right-click "Move Left/Right" option in Model View would improve navigation and help manage large models more efficiently.
