I'm afraid this is how legend works. But if you share the expected result you want, maybe we can find the proper solution.

All I'm trying to achive is to colour the bars differently, based on the ranges of the axis.
Using my time axis example, I'm plotting data by every minute of the day, but would like to change the colour of the bar based on the hour of the day. Using the legend feels like the best way to do this as it will both handle the colour and draw the key.
