"Filters on this visual" is not available to a button?

Summary: I need a visual on which I can apply the, "Filters on this Visual", and which would then open another report on a click.

It appears that elements which can open a URL do not have "Filters on this visual" available.

Long explanation:

Scenario:

Table of KPIs:   KPI_Name,   KPI_Value,    KPI_Target,    KPI_Description, etc.

A page filled with groups of 4 visuals, each related to a particular KPI

The previous report creator made measuers for each of the KPI components, which would then be dropped into the Value section for the visuals like Cards, Graphs, "KPI", etc.. There are now almost100 measures.

Experimenting, I found I could go without the measures by simply assigning the table values to the visual, and then in the, "Filters on this visual" section of the filter pane, select the relevant KPI.          Shazam!, No more measures needed!

Except for the button that would open another report. Currently, the button has a Measure conatining the URL to the detailed report assigned. In order to go "measureless", I would need to assign the KPI_URL filed from the table and then use the "Filter on this visual" to get the correct KPI URL.

HOOOOWEVER, the "Filter on this visual" is not available in the Filters pane for a button.

So:

1. I have some option turned off, or on, depending on how it's worded

2. It just isn't supported.

3. An alternate method exists of which I am ignorant.

Please Wax Poetic

Thx

Hi @dthompsonKairos ,
You're absolutely right in observing that buttons in Power BI do not support "Filters on this visual" this is by design, and unfortunate.
You could try using a Table or Matrix as a navigation element instead. Tables do support "Filters on this visual," so you can filter by KPI directly. Just add KPI_Name and KPI_URL to the table, format the URL column as a Web URL, and use the visual-level filters to control which link appears.

I marked this as the solution. This is exactly what I ended up doing.

The only drawback is, I can't remove the header row, although I did change the font color to white to make the header invisible. But the Visual size can only be shrunk down so much before you get scroll boxes and the web link icon disappearing. But, I think I can make it work in my collection of KPIs.

Thanks!

Hi @dthompsonKairos ,
That's a clever workaround, using white font to hide the header. I would do the same.😊
The table visual can't be shrunk too much 😐  before scrollbars and interaction elements get clipped or disappear. To refine the look, may be turn off gridlines.

Cheers,
Sarita
