"Enter email address" pop-up

Hi everyone!

Login window keeps appearing in Power BI Desktop and interrupting my work. How can I disable it? I'm using Firefox.

Hey, Tomas. I'm having the same problem as you, and I have already done all the steps mentioned (about uninstalling and reinstalling to make sure it was updated to the latest version) but this pop-up still keeps appearing. Here it says that your problem was solved, yet all the messages indicate otherwise. Could you please tell me how you managed to solve this problem? (if it really was solved as the site indicates, of course, otherwise, sorry for the inconvenience)

Hi.

The problem has not been solved and this pop-up still appears (I don't know who provided the information that it is solved). I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't fix the problem as part of the PBI update for all users.

Hello @Tomasz2023 and all. I have good news regarding this extremely annoying issue. To place the credit where it belongs I thought of checking with Gemini for this, the below were it's recommendations and my actions and result. I tried to avoid playing with the the registery and did not like clearing existing data source permissions, so I tried (1) and (4) below then it was resolved The key (for my case) was clearing the option for "Translytical Task Flow", as I was already having saving to one drive disabled earlier, and using default browser did not help.

Check the below summary table, and below it I am also pasting the full details of each action as recommended by Gemini

StepActionActionResult
1Enable "Use my default browser"ExecutedNo Change
2Disable WAM (Registry Fix)PendingN/A (Issue Resolved)
3Clear Global PermissionsPendingN/A (Issue Resolved)
4

Disable "Save to OneDrive/SharePoint"

Disable "Translytical task flow"

1. Shift Authentication to Browser

This is the most effective "no-code" fix.

  1. In Power BI Desktop, go to File > Options and settings > Options.
  2. Under the Global section, select Security.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and check the box: "Use my default web browser".
  4. Restart Power BI. When the prompt appears, it will open in Edge/Chrome where your corporate login is likely already cached.

2. Disable WAM (Windows Authentication Manager)

If the browser shift doesn't work, the issue is likely WAM failing to bridge the VPN connection.

  1. Close Power BI Desktop.
  2. Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
  3. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
  4. Right-click in the right pane > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  5. Name it UseWAM and set the value to 0.
  6. Restart Power BI and try logging in again.

3. Clear Cached Permissions

  1. Go to File > Options and settings > Data source settings.
  2. Select Global permissions.
  3. Find any entries related to "Microsoft Account" or your corporate URLs and click Clear Permissions.
  4. Then, go to File > Options and settings > Options > Global > Data Load and click Clear Cache.

4. Disable Problematic Preview Features

There is a documented bug where the "Save to OneDrive and SharePoint" feature causes infinite login loops on remote connections.

  1. Go to File > Options and settings > Options > Preview features.
  2. Uncheck "Save to OneDrive and SharePoint".
  3. Uncheck "Translytical task flow" (if visible).
  4. Restart the application.

"

Please let me know if this worked for your case, and mark my comment as accepted solution if it helped.

Good luck.

May be u can try sending an issue to MS. You can use the links provided by @v-hashadapu

Hi @Tomasz2023 , Hope you're doing okay! May we know if it worked for you, or are you still experiencing difficulties? Let us know — your feedback can really help others in the same situation.

Hi. I reinstalled Power BI but it didn't fix the problem - the window keeps popping up.

Hey @Tomasz2023

I suffered from same problem when I open PBID outside my company domain using a VPN.

I enabled my proxy, although normally when I login to my comnpany via VPN (out of domain) I have to switch proxy off.

By switching on the proxy, when I got the login pop up, I clicked ok to sign in, the next sign in window appeared and the sign in process continued and the problem disappeared.

Seems I had to have the proxy on!

See if this works with you.

Good luck.

Hi,

I work on a private computer at home and I don't connect to the company. I'm annoyed that Microsoft hasn't solved the pop-up problem yet.

Hi @Tomasz2023 , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

I think the best course of action is to raise a Microsoft Support ticket, as this would need to be resolved on their end.

Hi @Tomasz2023 ,

hope you are doing great. May we know if your issue is solved or if you are still experiencing difficulties. Please share the details as it will help the community, especially others with similar issues.

Hello @v-hashadapu ,

I haven't written anything here yet because I haven't tested my Power BI Desktop yet (I've had other things to do). So far, I've reinstalled Power BI Desktop (without uninstalling the previous PBID). If the pop-up problem persists, I plan to uninstall PBID and then reinstall it. I'll definitely let you know if the pop-up problem disappears (I'll try to do it by the end of the week).

Hi @Tomasz2023 , thanks for the update. Please do share the results.

Hi @Tomasz2023 , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.

There is no known documented way to disable this prompt permanently. Disabling cloud save (OneDrive/SharePoint) no longer suppresses it. Firefox may interfere with login persistence due to token caching issues, so using Edge and signing in once is the only stable workaround for end users.

I logged into Edge:

but unfortunately the window still pops up:

I've read that this seems to be an issue if Save to OneDrive or SharePoint is enabled so you might want to disable that.
