protect a powerbi web link

if I publish a power bi file on the web, how can I protect that link so that it is only visible to certain users who are obliged to log in with a username and password?

Hi MAwwad ,thanks for the quick reply, I'll add more.

Hi @alejandroRodri ,

Regarding your question, if you need specific users to see only specific data, you can configure RLS in the report first and then publish it to your workspace.

Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Use the embed option of the report to create a group that includes all the people who need to view the report. Add the group as a member of the workspace where the report is stored. People who want to view the report need a Pro license/PPU license, or the workspace is hosted in Premium capacity.

and is there any possibility to make this access limitation without using the powerbi workspace? My need is that I have to share a powerbi report within my organisation and it is not feasible to pay a microsoft email to each of these people to give access to their account within the workspace where the report is hosted.

So I need an external solution to microsoft where I can publish the report generating some kind of access that I don't have to do with microsoft subscriptions.

Hi @alejandroRodri ,

Is your website accessible only to users within your organization? If so, you can use this feature to embed the relevant report URL into your website without requiring users to log in.

Publishing a Power BI report to the web makes it publicly accessible, which means anyone with the link can view the report. This method does not support user authentication or access control. However, there are several alternatives to securely share your Power BI reports with specific users who must log in with a username and password:

1. Power BI Service with Row-Level Security (RLS):

  • Publish to Power BI Service: Publish your report to the Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com).
  • Create a Workspace: Create a workspace and add the users you want to share the report with.
  • Apply RLS: Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) to restrict data access based on the user's role.
  • Share the Report: Share the report or dashboard with specific users or groups within your organization. Users will need to log in with their Power BI credentials to access the report.
