power bi builder

Hey Team,

I am trying to connect a data set via power BI Builder to create a paginated report. I have done this before with a similar power BI report with no issues. But this time I am getting a syntax error: Missing operand after 's' operator.

I found a similar post but with little explanation as to how to locate the syntax error within my report.

Asked by MVR01 New User: It seems like he answered his own question. I also searched my file for apostrophe's in the name of a dimension or measure group.

"Found it! when using an apostrophe in the name of a dimension or measure group in Power BI, Report builder will give an error when trying to create a dataset in report builder. " - MVR01

  • Csalinas144 I worked on many paginated reports using various Power BI datasets and never ran into an issue, seems strange, seems like something is in the model which is giving that error. At what stage you get the error?

I have a Power BI Desk Top Report and I published it to the work space on power BI service.

I want to connect it to Power BI Report Builder

So I do the following steps:

Start a new file from Report Builder

I add a power bi data set connection: selecting my report

I select a data set from the power bi service

then I add a data set under the folder datasets.

In the dialouge box I choose my newly connected data source

      Then I select Query Designer.

I then get a prompted dialogue box

  • Csalinas144 sounds like the query designer dialog box is not opening for some reason. Can you create a visual in Power BI desktop, (any visual, let's a table visual with product and value) and underperformance analyzer take the query of the visual and copy that query in query designer and see if that works?

Although I would recommend opening an issue ticket with Microsoft.

      I am embarrased.

haha. I actually had the same issue as the guy I originally quoted. I removed an apostrophe in one of my data fields, and I republished.

The design Query Editor is working now.  The issue was that I did not republish.

I do want to thank you for your time and effort! Thank You, for your quick and timely response parry2k
