Hi @Anonymous ,

PBIT file is much smaller than the PBIX file. The reason for this is it keeps all the reporting structure along with the data model schema for your data. This allows you to do all the transformations and reporting changes in this file.

The only benefit of having a PBIT file is from data security point in the scenarios where you don't want to share the data.

Thanks,

Initially, I was also in the same confusion. But yes in Pbit extestion there is no data. when we open the pbit file we can see that initially there is no data after doing a refresh data came from the source to your pbit file, and now your file is the same as Pbix and you can save it as Pbix.

In this way we if we share pbit file with some one if he do not have access to db he can not able to refresh data and see data in file.(Data Security)

Thanks
Mahesh.

Hi @Anonymous ,

PBIT is a template.

You create your model and visuals and save it as template (PBIT).

When you open the file you are gonna load the data and see the full report with data + visuals and save it as PBIX file to publish it.
