paginated reports: In Query Designer what are parameters

When Creating a dataset in Paginated Reports on the window in the query designer it says dimension to allow you to filter the data, one of the options on the dimension row is parameter with a tick box. In basic terms first what is a parameter and what difference does it make if I select it or not?

Hi,

If you choose that chec box then that particular dimension act as a parameter. Parameter means it allows users to select the value when they start run the report. It allows run time filter experience for that particular dimensions.
