on Line chart - show Year & Quarter

Hello: Folks Who Know What They Are Doing

I have a simple line chart and bar chart.  In the bar chart the X-axsis displays the Year & Quarter correctly.

I cannot get the line chart to show the same.  Both charts are based on the same data.  The same attributes.

On the line chart I have tried drill up and drill down but no luck.

Your kind assistance is requested.

Best Regards

KD

Hi,@KBD .I am glad to help you.
You need to make sure that the field type of the X-axis in your line chart is correctly set to Date Hierarchy, and that the related drill-down buttons are enabled.

Trying to change the type of data presentation for the X-axis field
There are two types: Continuous and Categorical.
You need to pay attention to the status of these settings (check which features of the visual settings need to be enabled and which do not) and choose the one that suits your needs.

A few things you need to check

1. make sure that the fields used for the X-axis are the same data type (for example, date type) in both charts.
2. Create a date hierarchy in Power BI, including year and quarter, and then apply it to the X-axis of the line chart. You can right-click the date field in the Fields pane, select New Hierarchy, and then add the year and quarter.
3. Formatting the X-axis: In the Format option of the line chart, check the X-axis settings to make sure it is formatted to show years and quarters. You can find the relevant settings in the “X-axis” option.
4. Please check the data model: Make sure that there are no filters or other settings in the data model that affect the display of the line chart.
You can copy a bar chart visual directly and change its visual type to line chart, so that the filter range is consistent.
5. Using a calendar table with complete dates is a better approach, you can create a calendar table, and establish the relevant relationships
You can create a calendar table and create related relationships. Creating columns with different granularity for dates can achieve similar results.

I hope the following issue can help you.
