I have version 2.48.4792.721 64-bit (July 2017) installed on a Windows 10 laptop, and when I try to sign in using my work account, I get this message: "Unable to sign in. Sorry, we encountered an err...
Thank you v-qiuyu-msft for your response and follow up. Last night a Windows update took place and the problem was finally solved. I do not know what could have happened, but everything is ok now.
The problem was not related to the account, I tried with other coworkers' accounts that were able to sign in their PCs.
I appreciate all your help on this.

Helper I
Helper II have problem with the same error message while publishing report with live connection to SSAS to powerbi.com. It says: object reference not set to an instance of an object. When I revert PBI desktop to June 2017 update, it works.
