object reference not set to an instance of an object while signing in

I have version 2.48.4792.721 64-bit (July 2017) installed on a Windows 10 laptop, and when I try to sign in using my work account, I get this message: "Unable to sign in. Sorry, we encountered an error while trying to sign you in. Details: Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

I think this error is not related to the account, because I have tried with other accounts and I always get the same error. It does not matter what I type into the username field, the error is always the same.

I will appreciate any help on this.

Thank you @v-qiuyu-msft for your response and follow up. Last night a Windows update took place and the problem was finally solved. I do not know what could have happened, but everything is ok now.

The problem was not related to the account, I tried with other coworkers' accounts that were able to sign in their PCs.

I appreciate all your help on this.

Sergio.

Hi @sergiol,

1. Please type https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/ in browser then click the Sign in button, enter the same account which has problem in Power BI desktop to see if issue related to the account.

2. You can download desktop Jun version from here to check if the issue related to Power BI desktop.

3. Please run Fiddler and enable desktop trace log, repeat the steps to sign in in Power BI desktop until the error throws out. Share Fiddler and desktop trace log files here. You can upload to your OneDrive and share the link here.

@lubosbednar Please also follow above point 3, share Fiddler and trace log files with us.

I have problem with the same error message while publishing report with live connection to SSAS to powerbi.com. It says: object reference not set to an instance of an object. When I revert PBI desktop to June 2017 update, it works.

Can you share that version with me? I think it could be a temporary solution. I will fully appreciate it since previous versions are no longer available on the official site.
