MySQL does not support the 'direct query' connection mode. In my opinion, I'd like to suggest you try to write a custom connector with odbc and enabled the 'direct query' option on it. You can also vote Direct query with mysql Databases to help make it happen as soon as possible.

Excel will always be import mode. For MySQL you can choose.
I install version to 版本: 2.117.984.0 64-bit (2023年5月) , from UI the Direct Query option is show。 mysql can not use Direct Query, but can connect to a MySQL database with direct query mode using this connector MariaDB Direct Query Adapter

sounds like it may be a bug.
