matrix drill down issue

I have a matrix with Unit Name and then when you expand you see all the Unit Types under the Unit Name. I have 3 variables that all vary by Unit Type (var1,var2,var3). all is well.

the issue is when I add a value to the matrix that does NOT vary by Unit Type. It screws up the Unit Type/Unit Name relationship completely and displays ALL unit types for all unit names for every single unit name. 

I'm guessing this is a relationship issue but I'm not sure what to do. The new variable has no way of connecting to unit type and ideally I just want it to duplicate for all unit types under that unit name
