Hi @LuisManuel,
Thank you for your message you're doing great as a beginner in Power BI! Since you mentioned that you're using Power BI independently for a course and not as part of an organization, the message about a "tenant admin" does not apply to your case. That only affects users in corporate environments where an administrator controls features.
In your situation, the issue is most likely related to your system or network settings. To completely restart Power BI Desktop, simply close the app, then open Task Manager (right-click your taskbar → Task Manager), and ensure there are no remaining "Power BI Desktop" processes running. If there are, right-click and select "End Task." Then reopen Power BI.
Also, try enabling software rendering by going to File → Options and settings → Options → Global → Display, and checking the box for "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering". Click OK, close Power BI, and open it again.
Power BI maps rely on Bing Maps, which requires internet access to certain domains. If you're behind a restricted network, try connecting to a different one, like a mobile hotspot, to see if the map visuals work.
These steps should help resolve the issue without needing admin access.

Hi @LuisManuel
If maps are disabled the very likely reason is your tenant admin has disabled it. You may need reach out to your IT to have this enabled.
Hola Dade...
Hi @LuisManuel ,
The error message you’re seeing in Power BI, “map and filled maps are disabled,” usually happens due to a combination of settings or network restrictions. Even though you've followed all the instructions like going through Options → Security and enabling visual elements, there are still a few areas to double-check. One common issue is related to your regional settings—Power BI sometimes struggles with locales that use commas instead of dots for decimal points, so switching the regional setting to English (United States) can help. Another frequent blocker is the network itself—Power BI relies on Bing Maps, so if your firewall, proxy, or company network is restricting access to external services like bing.com or ecn.dev.virtualearth.net, the map visuals won’t load. To test this, try connecting to a different network, like a mobile hotspot. Also, if you're using the version of Power BI Desktop from the Microsoft Store, it might cause issues with permissions, so it's best to uninstall that and instead download the installer directly from the Power BI website. After making changes, don’t forget to completely restart Power BI Desktop—changes to security settings or visuals won’t take effect until you do. Lastly, graphics drivers can also play a role. If there's a compatibility issue with your GPU, try changing the hardware acceleration setting to use software rendering only.
Best regards,
Hola DataNinja...
Gracias...
