import vs direct query decision

can it be possible to decide before the reports implementation whether we should go with import or direct query connection mode?

we will be implementing dimension model in Azure synapse and will creating Power BI reports on top of it

Yes, you can decide before implementing reports whether to use Import or DirectQuery connection mode in Azure Synapse. The Import method takes a snapshot of data and stores it in Power BI Desktop, while DirectQuery runs queries directly to the source at run time. Import is a good option for small to medium-sized datasets that require fast reports and dashboards. DirectQuery or Live Connection is better for large datasets that require real-time access and analysis

@Khushidesai0109  If we go with import mode then there is limitation of 1 GB dataset size , we cannot use premium license , considering this should we go with direct query?

@powerbiexpert22 Yes, DirectQuery mode in Power BI Desktop is better for larger datasets, as it doesn't have the 1 GB semantic model limitation that Import mode does.
