hyperlink to external excel files from Power BI Dashboard

Hi everyone,

I am working now on a Sales dashboard and I have a request from my boss that if Power BI can have a hyperlink to connect to an external excel file in same File driver/server or not. Or if in Sharepoint, can we have hyperlink as URL path to this specific excel file (which is uploaded and saved in sharepoint before)? As we build an overview sales dashboard and for more details about sale situation of each region, if sale guys would like to know more, they can access directly the external files from dashboard. We did successful this way in excel and now in Power BI we do not know how to process this.

If anyone has solution, please share to me! Thanks so much!

Hi @ThuJa23

The steps should be the same as the video link. The only difference is that you need to copy the file link from sharepoint site. Find your Excel file in sharepoint site and copy link.

Then use this link to build a table Power BI and Data Category of this column is Web Url.

Build a table visual to show hyperlink.

Hello @ThuJa23 ,

Yes it is possible provided you have a clumn with the text data in your model

Refer this video-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz2aD0XvkUk

Thanks for your sharings, I also have a look on this link. But it is for normal URL links I think. In my case is an external excel file (.xlsx) or an excel file is saved in sharepoint. Do you have any idea about this? Thanks for your information 🙂
