how a filter(or slicer) works with direct query

Hi,

Anybody can explain the how the direct query works when user selects a value from a filter? Will Power BI send the filter value as a query filter to the database and return the filtered data back to the Power BI?

if I use a parameterized SP, how can I catch the filter and the interaction among the charts and pass them as parameters to the SP?

E.g., there's a filter 'Last Name' , and 2 charts( one is for pct by gender, and another one is pct by age) on the report.

Thanks!
