hard filters

I am pulling data from an Access database (I do not have SSAS). I want to know if there is a filter I can use that the user cannot edit. For example, I want a specific salesperson to see only sales records with his sales code on them. Any way to say filter for salaescode = users sales code?

Theres no way to filter based on user id at the moment (as far as I'm aware). Even if you could all the data is in the model anyway and wouldn't be hard to obtain.

At a guess I'm not sure this kind of functionality is even on the radar for PBI, its such a new product MS seem to be focusing on the data analysis side of things in order to catch up with rivals.

One slightly clunky workaround could be to design a model and distribute it to your sales guys but without any data (or perhaps with some sample/dummy data), set up the import to look in a standard place for a data file (for example a csv) and give your sales guys instructions on how to refresh. You could then just make the data available and tell them to refresh.

Thank you! So there is no way to make an uneditable filter? Say I make a specific report for a specific salesperson that filters only his sales code. Is there a way I can make that filter uneditable? This would be really bad for me!

        Hey,

This sort of restriction should be best implemented on the server side (i.e., database). You can play tricks on the client to make it appear to be uneditable, but that is never reliable given that the server is wide open.
