desktop login

Good Evening

I have been trying to login to my power BI desktop for 2 weeks now and I haven't been able to, everytime I try, I get a new error. Today the error was that my email address doesn't exist which is not true because I used it to login here to this forum. On most days, the error I get is that my password is not correct, which again is false.

please help

  • Hi PrudenceTlou  - sometimes, clearing the local cache resolved the problem for me. you can also check the below steps:

    1.Close Power BI Desktop completely.

    2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to:
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\ or Use command prompt ctrl +R  Paste the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\

    3. Delete the following folders/files:

    AnalysisServicesWorkspaces

    CEF

    User.zip

    4. Restart Power BI Desktop and try signing in again.

These folders store cached authentication and session data , you can delete it and restart the application again.

FYI : Power BI Desktop does not work with personal Microsoft accounts, i hope it is not the case for your desktop.

    Hope this helps.

Hi! This usually isn’t caused by an incorrect email or password. When Power BI Desktop shows different authentication errors, it’s often due to corrupted cached credentials or token issues on the local machine.

Please try clearing Windows Credential Manager entries related to Power BI and Microsoft, then restart the machine and sign in again. Also ensure you’re using the latest version of Power BI Desktop.
