data recognition on a xls file

Hi

I have some data I'm trying to import through the power Bi Desktop, but for some reason as a .xls file the query editor is not recognising the text in column E so I can't filter by the column.

As an .xls file it's not show up with only one number and the text like labour, plant isn't visible,  but as a .xlsx file the columns are showing up ok. I can't convert all the files to xlsx as I will have about 200 of these each month. I tried removing the autodetect on the column types, but it's still not working.

Has anymore come across this before? and has a workaround that does not involve resaving all the files

Thanks

  • Hi kevjay74,

What version of PBI are you using?

I made the testing using PBIx64 December version and saved a file on xls format from office 21016, it work correctly.

Hi was wondering if anyone had any idea on this?. It seems strange that it's just the .xls format. I thought Power BI looked at the first 200 rows to define a data type, so strange that it's appering as a number. Anyway, any assistance on this would be much appreciated.

        thanks
