connecting with sql server database through online PowerBI ?

I need to connect with the SQL server database through online PowerBI. There I have these four options:

But this DB is not Azure DB, how to connect with that DB ? Do I need a data gateway for it, if yes , which data gateway I should install for this?

Need urgent help.

First, you need to download Desktop and use that to connect to your on-premises SQL database. Second, yes, you will need a gateway. You can use either the Personal gateway or Enterprise gateway but I would recommend Enterprise, especially if you want to use Direct Query.

I installed powerBI desktop and trying to connect with the sql server but I am getting some error. Credentials are correct for sure.

Sql server is not Azure hosting service. I am doing Get databse > Database > SQL server. IS that correct ?

My idea- I am trying to connect with the database and after publish it to the web I will install data gateway.

One more thing- I have already installed a data gateway on my system for some other project. So now when I am  trying to install other data gateway it is showing error that first uninstall the previous one.

Do I need to uninstall it ? I am not using license version.

Thanks for your time.

What error are you getting? Check your authentication type Windows or Database credentials and make sure that is correct. Would need to see the error you are getting.

That's correct.

Try to configure the gateway and add datasource in power bi service, you dont have to install more gateway.

Hi Anand,

You should install on premises data gateway which would help you to connect to the SQL Server DB.
