I want to confirm which version of Analyze in Excel is installed on my Windows box (x64 Microsoft 10 Enterprise).
For example, the latest msi package available through the Power BI Service is "x64_18.0.29.0_SQL_AS_OLEDB.msi".
How do I know that this package has been applied?
(I do not have admin permissions to install programs or msi packages. These must be installed by our system techs.)
I have searched online but haven't found anything helpful.
Anyone know how to confirm which version has been applied?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Yes, you are looking for the wrong app name. You need the Analysis Services OLE DB driver, not the SQL Server ODBC driver.
Hi @Mike_Yukon ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.
You might want to try verifying the driver file directly through File Explorer to see exactly what is active on your system. This approach lets you see the specific build version of the library that Excel actually uses.

Hi @v-abhinavmu. I have already tried the approach of checking the product version of the msolap.dll file. The result is a completely different version # than what is embedded in the msi installer file name ("x64_18.0.29.0_SQL_AS_OLEDB.msi").
I also checked the registry key for Microsoft SQL Server. It shows a version # that is close to but still different that the msi installer version.
Hi @Mike_Yukon,
Thanks for the update. The version shown in “Installed Apps” reflects the actual installed OLE DB provider version, and glad that helped clarify your query.
Appreciate you confirming the solution.
Thanks for the reply, @lbendlin
1. This is what shows up when I right-click on the Windows button --> Apps and features, then search for "SQL" or "ODBC".
2. Notice the displayed version does not match the version number embedded in the file name of the install file downloaded from the Power BI Service to my downloads folder:
"x64_18.0.29.0_SQL_AS_OLEDB.msi"
Shouldn't the version number seen via Windows Apps & features (#1) match the version number in the msi file name (#2)?
Am I looking for the wrong app name?

@lbendlin @v-abhinavmu You are correct Ibendlin. I was looking up the wrong app name.
Finally! Now I can confirm whether the latest version of Analyze in Excel has been installed!!
Hard to understand why Microsoft's documentation isn't clear on this.
Hi @Mike_Yukon,
Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum, and thanks to @lbendlin for sharing valuable insights.
Could you please confirm if your query has been resolved by the provided solution? This would be helpful for other members who may encounter similar issues.

Hi @v-abhinavmu. I do not believe that the tip provided by @lbendlin provides the answer. See my reply to the post by @lbendlin
Right click your Windows button, -> Installed Apps
