calculate cost saving between two products
I have a list of products, one groups of products is generic the other is patented (so cost more) but do the same thing. What I'd like is to be able to calculate the cost a customer could have saved ...

I'd like to suggest you add a group from the same products, then you can use this id column to find or correspond records. After these, you can simply compare records based on similar id groups and detail product types.
