blank values and this is not allowed for columns on the one side of a many-to-one relationship

Hi,

I am getting belo error as one of the column 'X' in table 'A' has multiple null values. But is there a way where PBI can ignore this error although I want to keep the relationship (1-M) between the tables with column 'X' in table A

Error: Column 'X' in Table 'A' contains blank values and this is not allowed for columns on the one side of a many-to-one relationship or for columns that are used as the primary key of a table. Table: A.

Hi @Anonymous

it depends on what those Null values represent! in power query you have the option to either Fill in Down the rows if they represent the same value as their precedent or use Replace value.

May be an image of your table can help us better to undestand

Hi @Anonymous ,

This is the basic requirement for creating relationships between 2 tables not just in Power BI, in any other tool, database or platform.

So, you will have to get rid of BLANK/NULL values. Try replacing them with some values like "No Value" or "No Category"; whatever suits as per your data. Then try creating relationships.

Thanks,

Pragati

@Anonymous as the message states, you cannot have null/blank values in one side of the relationship table, maybe replace null/blank value with like "unknown" and make sure it is a distinct value.
