X axis sort in scatter chart

Hey everyone, I’m having a hard time trying to sort the X-axis by year in descending order. The column used as the X-axis is of number type. Do you have any idea why this might be happening?

Thankyou, @Greg_Deckler, for your response.

Hi bumoverflow,

Thank you for your follow-up.

From what I understand, the X-axis (Year) in your scatter chart is not sorted properly. This usually happens when the axis is treated as a category.

Please follow these steps which may help solve the problem:

  1. Make sure the Year field is a number, which looks correct from the image you shared.
  2. Go to the X-Axis settings in your scatter chart and set the Type to Continuous (not Categorical). Then use the 3-dot menu to sort by Year, and choose either Ascending or Descending order.

I have attached a screenshot and a sample pbix file that might help you fix the issue:

Thank you.

@bumoverflow Is that a custom visual? In the standard visual, you can use Invert range to flip the x-axis.

Thank you for your response. This is a default visual. It is not just about flipping the x axis, it is not in correct order in any way.

2023, 2025, 2022, 2024, flipping it would make no sense 😞
