I finally have a solution (or rather: workaround) that works!

Search for Volumemixer or soundmixer in your general settings.

Under "Apps" you should see Power BI (You must have a Power BI file opened).  Turn the volume to 0 and voila, peace of mind!

Same problem, but unchecking Accessibility didnt help it, and volum mixer is not an option. Wondering what needs to happen for Microsoft to fix their buggs?

The volume mixer option only showed up for me once I had a PBI file open - just in case you didn't have one open when you tried!

Hi @Amardep1010

I wanted to check if you had the opportunity to review the information provided by @Brenda_Loznik . Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

The solution I shared in my reply worked for me. I haven’t specifically checked that setting, but if there are no issues after applying it, it should be fine.

Hi @Amardep1010 ,

I'm aware of that setting. It is checked off. It has always been checked off. I've tried turning it on and then off. I've tried closing Power BI and I have restarted my computer multiple times. It is as if the setting is saved somewhere where I can't access it  😞

Could you please check Windows settings?

  • Open Settings
  • Go to Accessibility
  • Click Narrator
  • Toggle OFF

I have also checked this setting mutiple times. Every single check is off. I've also changed it to be a male voice instead of a female voice, so I can confirm it is defenitely not the voice behind the Power BI voice over 😕

I have the same thing! It started right around the March 2026 update and it is driving me absolutely mad.

Obviously I checked the Accessibility feature under Report Settings, but that option has never been checked. I have re-installed Power BI from both the Microsoft Store and the Web and I've tried deleting the User and WebVIewer files in my <User>\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop Store App directory. I have also turned off the preview features and obviously checked the Microsoft Narrator. The Microsoft Narrator is not the problem because I confirmed this is a different voice entirely.

I'm really hoping for a solution soon, because this is beyond frustrating.

Glad to find out I'm not the only one. I don't even have the accessibility section under report settings as an option.

This didn't work for me. This setting has never been turned on, and neither has the narrator in my windows settings. I turned them both on/off again to try and reset it back to off but it still announces the "working on it" and other messages. The only thing that's worked for me is turning the sound off for Power BI in the volume mixer.

That’s Power BI’s accessibility feature (screen reader / narrator support) kicking in — it announces status messages like “Working on it” while reports load.

Here’s how to stop it:
If you're using Power BI Desktop
Go to File → Options and settings → Options
In the left panel, select Accessibility
Look for:Screen reader support Or Enable accessibility features
Turn it OFF
Restart Power BI
