Which visual for a Job Timeline?

I'm trying to look for a visual with the following specifications:

  • Job usage timeline (bar graph like)
  • Jobs can be part of a group
  • When two or more jobs of the same group overlap (timestamp) they should be displayed in the next line
  • Timestamps can be days, hours, minutes and seconds precise
  • Tooltips (hover over QuickInfo)

Here are the ones I've tried so far and why they didn't work:

  • R-Script: hc_vistime - (Couldn't be displayed)
  • R-Script: gg_vistime - (No tooltips)
  • Gantt - (Timestamps could only be days exact)
  • Craydec Timelines - (Overlaps would not start new line)

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi  @Anonymous ,

In the Gantt chart, do you want to show the difference timestamp between two dates?

You can create calculated column

Time =
VAR DIFF ='Table'[date1] - 'Table'[date]
VAR NumOfMinutes = DIFF * 24
    * 60
VAR DAYS =
    IF ( DIFF >= 1, INT ( DIFF ), BLANK () )
VAR HOURS =
    INT ( ( DIFF - DAYS ) * 24 )
VAR MINUTES = NumOfMinutes
    - ( DAYS * 24
    * 60 )
    - ( HOURS * 60 )
VAR DaysText =
    IF ( DAYS > 1, FORMAT ( DAYS, "00" ) & "days" )
VAR HoursText =
    FORMAT ( HOURS, "00" ) & "hrs"
VAR MinutesText =
    FORMAT ( MINUTES, "00" ) & "mins"
RETURN
    IF (
        NOT ( ISBLANK ( 'Table'[date1] ) ),
        COMBINEVALUES ( " ", DaysText, HoursText, MinutesText )
    )

Put into the Gantt chart visual effect, you can display days, hours, minutes and seconds

Hi,

thank you for sharing the file. May I ask how could I change the scale of x-axis? I display the data in minutes/seconds (the duration of the task is between 1 s to 1 hour). Thank you for your help (I used the same graph as you recomended). Sona

Hi Liu,

That's not really what I was looking for.

My problem with the Gantt Chart from MAQ Software is that the x-Axis doesn't scale in the way I want. From what I've tested, the most scaled down date hierachy is in days, however I need it to be scaled down to seconds.

Here's a screenshot of the data I'm using, most of it is written in german, but the column names describe it pretty well.

Best regards,

Stephan
