What is the best way for me to apply a filter on a specific field?

What is the best way for me to apply a filter on a specific field? I have a hostname column where I want to supress all blank values for the entire power bi report.

Hi @Rnaval ,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

To exclude blank values in the hostname column across the entire report, the recommended approach is to apply a report-level filter. Simply add the hostname field to the report filters pane and set the condition to “is not blank.”

If those blank rows are not needed at all, a better approach is to filter them out directly in Power Query, which helps keep your data model cleaner and more efficient.

Hello @Rnaval ,

well it depends on your business case, if you don't need the data that's related to these blank values, then the best option is to remove from from the datasource, if you couldn't then you can remove them from Power Query (AkA transform data) else you can remove them from page level filter.

Hi @Rnaval

If you want to remove all blank hostname values everywhere in your report, the simplest approach is to set a Report-level filter:

  1. Open the Filters pane.
  2. In the Report level filters section, drag in the hostname field.
  3. Set the filter to “is not blank”.

This applies to all pages and visuals in the report, so you don’t have to repeat the filter each time.
