Webview2 error - Power BI wont save

The new version of Webview2 (version 120.0.2210.77) was updated a few days ago and now Power BI (version 2.124.1052.0) wont save. Files open and I can make changes, but it wont save and more often than not it comes with a WebView2 error saying to write here to get help.

I have solved this problem by uninstalling the Power BI desktop then restarting the computer and installing it from the Microsoft Store.

It did not solve my problem, but seems that windows 11 got some updates which have fixed the issue.

Can you mention which version of windows you are using?

Hi @Nickington ,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your problem. Base on your description, it seems that Power BI can't save the changes and get the WebView2 error after update the version of Webview2 to new version (120.0.2210.77). Could you please try the following steps and check if they can solve your problem:

1. Reinstall WebView2 Runtime:

  • Uninstall the current version of Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime from your system.
  • Download and install the latest version of WebView2 Runtime from the official Microsoft Edge WebView2 page.
  • Restart your computer after installation.

2. Clear Cache

  • Open Power BI Desktop.
  • Go to File > Options and settings > Options.  Under the "Global" section, select "Data Load".
  • Click on "Clear Cache" to remove any temporary files that might be causing issues.vyiruanmsft_0-1703142597170.png

3. Run Power BI as Administrator:

  • Right-click on the Power BI Desktop shortcut.
  • Select “Run as administrator” and try to save your file again.
