WebView2 Error on Power BI Desktop Startup

Hello Community,

I recently installed Power BI Desktop on my local system, but every time I restart the application, I receive the following error:

"There's a problem with WebView2. Please report the issue to the Power BI Community so we can help you resolve it."

Additionally, it states that it couldn't find a file from a specific location (e.g., . /)

I've tried reinstalling Power BI and updating WebView2, but the issue persists. Has anyone encountered this before? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Hi Sai-Krupa

    Please try the following steps:

    Run Power BI as Administrator
Right-click the Power BI Desktop shortcut and select Run as Administrator. This bypasses permission issues caused by security software or system policies.

    Check for Edge/WebView2 Compatibility
Ensure Microsoft Edge is updated to the latest version, as WebView2 relies on Edge’s rendering engine,

There are some minimum requirements to run Power BI Desktop, you can refer this official document Get Power BI Desktop to check the configuration of your PC.

    Best Regards,

    Jayleny

I have installed Power BI five times and have run it as an administrator, but I keep encountering the following error when trying to launch it:

      Something went wrong

Resolution of the dependency failed, type = "Microsoft.Mashup.Client.UI.Shared.IThemeServices", name = "(none)".

Exception occurred while: Calling constructor Microsoft.PowerBI.Client.Windows.Services.ThemeService(Microsoft.PowerBI.Client.Shared.IPowerBIUserSettings powerBIUserSettings).

Exception is: InvalidOperationException - Unable to create the directory
      "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Temp\Power BI Desktop\408ef496-a8ab-457d-94f6-03d269d842b4"

      AccessAnalysis:
      No such directory - "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Temp\Power BI Desktop\408ef496-a8ab-457d-94f6-03d269d842b4"
No such directory - "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Temp\Power BI Desktop"
      No write permission - "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Temp"
      No write permission - "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local"
      No write permission - "C:\Users\[User]\AppData"
      No write permission - "C:\Users\[User]"
      No write permission - "C:\"

      --------------------------------------

At the time of the exception, the container was:

      Resolving Microsoft.PowerBI.Client.Windows.Services.ThemeService, (none)
      (⨁ mapped from Microsoft.Mashup.Client.UI.Shared.IThemeServices, (none))
      Calling constructor Microsoft.PowerBI.Client.Windows.Services.ThemeService(Microsoft.PowerBI.Client.Shared.IPowerBIUserSettings powerBIUserSettings)

It seems like Power BI is unable to create necessary temporary files due to permission issues.

      I have already tried:

      • Reinstalling Power BI multiple times
      • Running it as an administrator

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I am continuing to have this issue as well after working through a help ticket with Microsoft and reinstalling webview2 and implementing updates.
