Waterfall chart logic over some quarters
Hi,
I am struggling to create a complex Waterfall chart after several attemps and have exhausted my options. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
This is a sample data that I am currently working with:
| Currency | Quarters | Attributes | Values |
| INR | Q1-2024 | PV | 20000 |
| INR | Q1-2024 | IS | 10000 |
| INR | Q1-2024 | RO | -6000 |
| INR | Q2-2024 | PV | 24000 |
| INR | Q2-2024 | IS | 5000 |
| INR | Q2-2024 | RO | -4000 |
| INR | Q3-2024 | PV | 25000 |
| INR | Q3-2024 | IS | 10000 |
| INR | Q3-2024 | RO | 0 |
| INR | Q4-2024 | PV | 35000 |
| INR | Q4-2024 | IS | 0 |
| INR | Q4-2024 | RO | -3000 |
| INR | Q1-2025 | PV | 32000 |
| INR | Q1-2025 | IS | 0 |
| INR | Q1-2025 | RO | 0 |
| INR | Q2-2025 | PV | 32000 |
| INR | Q2-2025 | IS | 0 |
| INR | Q2-2025 | RO | -4000 |
| INR | Q3-2025 | PV | 28000 |
| INR | Q3-2025 | IS | 15000 |
| INR | Q3-2025 | RO | -4000 |
It has a Currency column whcih would work as a slicer. The waterfall logic is such that I would want the waterfall to continue over the some quarters with three categories i.e, PV, IS and RO as breakdowns.
Assuming Q1 2024 is the first of the lot, the working should be this:
Q1-2024; PV + IS - RO
Now, for Q2-2024, the Q1-2024 calculated value should serve as a base for further calculations in Q2-2024 and so on.
But when it comes to Waterfall Chart, it leads to some issues:
1. Somehow puts in the Total column as a mandatory column which cannot be removed.
2. This means the chart has a Total and PV which serve the same purpose, but if I remove the PV rows all together, it will mess up the total required.
3. It also leads to some unwanted bars in the waterfall chart leading to more confusion.
I'm happy to connect and give out more information on this as well and get to the correct solution. I'd greatly appreciate any help on this. Thanks a lot.
Cheers!
Hi,
Not sure of what you mean by "for Q2-2024, the Q1-2024 calculated value should serve as a base for further calculations in Q2-2024 and so on". I have done some works in the attached file to help you get started.
Hope this helps.
